About Us

Origins

In the 80's, a group of flying friends incorporated Champion Flyers, as a flying club operating an Aeronca 7AC Champ.  They included a flight instructor, a mechanic, and some guys who were just aviation enthusiasts.

The club continued flying into the 21st Century, but as time passed, life changed the situations of many of the members.  Career moves, competing priorities, and time resulted in the membership dwindling, until only the mechanic, Ken Miller, remained.

In 2003, Ken, now in possesion of an Inspection Authorization (IA) in addition to his Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) mechanic's license, transformed Champion Flyers into the maintenance organization at Shelby County, AL, airport.

Going Forward

Champion Flyers quickly established a succesful and well regarded organization maintaining a variety of piston engined light planes.  Not content to rest on their laurels, Ken and his staff have continued to grow and develop with general aviation.  In particular, the company has embraced the new light sport category of airplanes.  Unlike many shops, Champion Flyers is both trained and licensed to perform the full line of maintenance and repairs on these aircraft.  And Champion Flyers will continue to add to its knowledge and expertise as aviation evolves in the 21st century.
